Photo Essay: Jim Gannon gets shown the Port Vale exit door
This photo shows Jim Gannon next to an exit sign at the end of the game against Accrington.
Background
Jim Gannon had the shortest and the most controversial spell of any Vale manager. Gannon ousted club captain Tommy Fraser, froze Gary Roberts out of the side and brought in the much maligned Exodus Geogaghan. The infamous “busgate” incident and a run of poor results piled the pressure on. This photo was taken at the end of the acrimonious Accrington game where furious Vale fans protested against the manager. He was sacked by the club just two days later.
