Contrasting views as Vale and County bosses say they deserved win
Following the 2-2 draw at Vale Park, Port Vale manager Neil Aspin and Notts County boss Harry Kewell both claimed their side deserved a win.
Vale led through Luke Hannant but two County goals saw them facing defeat until Tom Pope’s late equaliser.
I thought we certainly did enough to win the match…
After the game, Neil Aspin said: “I can’t fault the players. I thought we were the better team and deserved to win.
“We could have lost the game at the end, and then rescued a point, but it wasn’t a game where we should be rescuing a point. I thought we certainly did enough to win the match.”
However, Harry Kewell commented: “I feel we deserved to win the game so to only draw is hard to take. We dug deep, defended well against their aerial threats and took our chance to go into the lead so late on.
“We knew that Port Vale would try to bombard us and eventually it worked, but we take the point and go again on Tuesday.”
