Defender off the mark as Port Vale reach knock-out stages
Defender Connell Rawlinson scored his first senior goal for the club as Port Vale defeated Middlesbrough B 2-0 in the Checkatrade Trophy.
The result was enough to propel Vale into the knock-out stages in addition to a £10,000 fee for winning the game. Should Vale beat Walsall in the final group game then they would top the group and be eligible to another payout.
Vale opened the scoring through striker Ricky Miller with Rawlinson heading home in the second-half.
One downside was the attendance – with just 554 attending it became the club’s lowest-ever official attendance.
