Ricky Miller thanks Port Vale fans after debut goal
Striker Ricky Miller had praise for Port Vale supporters after his debut goal against Cambridge United.
Miller opened the scoring with a free-kick and said: “As soon as I got brought down, nobody else was going to take it. I’ve scored a few of them in my time and as soon as it went over the wall I knew it was in.
I would like to say thank you very much to the fans, and we will back in again next week…
“That gave us a good platform for the second half. It was a positive first 45 minutes, but it was the opening day so you expect some touchy patches.
“The goal set us up perfectly and we took full advantage of that. For the penalty, myself and Popey linked up well on the edge of the box and it was a definite penalty – if I hadn’t have been brought down, I would’ve scored.
“If you could write an opening day start, that would be it. It was a brilliant day for us, but we can’t get carried away and we will be back in on Monday so we can build up to next Saturday.”
He added: “I would like to say thank you very much to the fans, and we will back in again next week. The game is over now and we switch our focus quickly on to the next one.”
