Prediction panel: Tranmere Rovers v Port Vale
Welcome to our prediction panel feature. Each week father and son duo Rob and Fred will pit their wits against a succession of OVF forum regulars.
About the predictors
Rob founded OVF over twenty years ago and updates the blog on this site. Rob says he is an “absolutely hopeless” predictor. His son Fred is 13 and has been going to see Vale for a few years now. He hopes to “humiliate my dad as per usual.”
Last week Rob picked up the first correct score of the season by predicting Port Vale 1-0 Crawley and takes the early lead in the table. Here are the results for this weekend…
Rob
Tranmere 0-0 Port Vale
I saw some encouraging signs against Carlisle in the second-half but I worry about the effect of three games in a week on Ricky Miller. With that in mind, I suspect Vale will struggle to score but I do think their resilient defence will prove tough for Tranmere to break down. Honours even…
Fred
Tranmere 0-1 Port Vale
I’m going to be the optimist in the group and we’ll see Vale end their long away torment. I’m bagging that man Tom Pope to be the matchwinner and for Vale’s defence to hold out for a cleansheet.
This week the duo take on the forum regular Heatwave…
Heatwave
Tranmere 1-1 Port Vale
The learning curve continues for the new look Vale side; they concede midway through the first half but come out stronger after the break, snatching a well deserved equaliser. They press late on but can’t overcome a stubborn Tranmere defence.
How they fared
Each panelist picks up five points for the correct result and ten points for the correct score. After last week’s result, the running league table looks like this:
Panelist | Correct scores | Correct results | TOTAL |
Rob | 1 | 1 | 15 |
Fred | 0 | 2 | 10 |
Forum users | 0 | 2 | 10 |
