Kanu scores as Port Vale are held by Newcastle
Port Vale drew with non-league Newcastle Town in their final friendly game of the summer.
It was a mostly second-string Vale side who took to the pitch with transfer-listed duo Joe Davis and Tyrone Barnett both starting.
Idris Kanu had a couple of early chances for the Valiants until on the 37th minute he was brought down and converted the penalty to put Vale ahead. Seven minutes later, veteran Antony Kay went close with a long-range effort but Vale took just a single goal advantage into the break.
In the second period, the home side had a couple of early chances before Kay had another effort for the Valiants.
Vale were made to pay for those missed chances on 77 minutes when the home side equalised through Taylor Attrell and 1-1 proved to be the final score.
