Hornby saves penalty, Angus scores penalty as Port Vale draw with Redditch
Striker Dior Angus scored against his former club and keeper Sam Hornby saved a penalty as Port Vale drew with Redditch in their opening friendly of the season.
The friendly was arranged as part of the deal taking Angus to Vale Park last season and the Valiants included a mixture of youngsters and first-team players with Sam Hornby, Joe Davis, Mike Calveley, Tyrone Barnett, Dior Angus, Harry Benns and trialist Luke Griffiths all starting the game.
Angus had an early goal ruled out for offside while the home side were grateful to keeper Connor for saves to keep out Angus and Benns.
Redditch did have a golden chance when they were awarded a penalty towards the end of the first-half but Hornby was able to save the spot-kick. Vale countered and won a penalty of their own as Joe Davis was fouled in the box. Dior Angus made no mistake as he scored against his former club.
In the second period, Hornby pulled off a number of good saves to deny the home side as he completed an impressive personal performance. However, Hornby was finally beaten in the dying seconds as the home side earned a draw.
