Vote: who should replace Tom Pope upfront?
With the Vale top-scorer set for a spell on the sidelines for a much needed hernia operation who should replace him upfront?
Scroll down as the vote follows the player profiles…
Tyrone Barnett
Age : 32
Starts: 7
Sub appearances: 13
Goals: 1
Undoubtedly an experienced player at this level and probably the most like-for-like replacement, the main issue with Barnett appears to be his ability to last the course. The much travelled forward has picked up a number of injuries already during his Vale career.
Anton Forrester
Age: 24
Starts: 5
Sub appearances: 4
Goals: 2
A talented goalscorer, Forrester is another to be dogged by injuries while Neil Aspin has also questioned his attitude. If he could stay fit and focused he would undoubtedly be an asset – but there are two big “ifs” there…
Dan Turner
Age: 19
Starts: 6
Sub appearances: 13
Goals: 3
He has drifted out of the first-team picture under Neil Aspin but Turner had a bright start to the season and does not have the fitness issues of Barnett and Forrester. This could be the youngster’s chance to break into the side again.
Dior Angus
Age: 24
Starts: 0
Sub appearances: 1
Goals: 0
He was bought as “one for the future” but nevertheless injuries could propel Angus into the first-team squad although putting him on from the start would be something of a gamble.
Donovan Wilson
Age: 20
Starts: 1
Sub appearances: 5
Goals: 0
The loanee has had a stop-start spell at Vale so far. Could Pope’s absence be a chance for him to forge a regular place upfront?
