Watch: Aspin says Vale fans are the club and he wants to make them proud
Neil Aspin hailed his team’s performance after the hard fought 1-0 victory over Coventry and says he wants to make the fans proud of his players.
Nathan Smith’s late goal gave Vale all three points and stretched the Valiants’ unbeaten run under Aspin to four game.
The club is all about the supporters. The managers and players come and go but the supporters remain. So, it’s all about the supporters and we need to give them a team they are proud of and can identify with…
After the win Aspin told the media: “It wasn’t a classic in terms of free flowing football or in terms of chances we were organised, we were determined, we were committed and all the players put in a shift.
“It’s down to the players with their workrate and application and they deserve a lot of credit because that was a tough game today.
“Defensively, they restricted Coventry to very little and that was obviously the key to winning the game.
“They have got good players but I want to talk about our own players and they are doing the supporters proud at the moment because they are willing to work and willing to graft.
“The players are doing tremendously well.
“The club is all about the supporters. The managers and players come and go but the supporters remain. So, it’s all about the supporters and we need to give them a team they are proud of and can identify with. It takes time to build that trust up but hopefully we can build that trust up.”
