Sam Hornby to be loaned out as Aspin says he needs to be in “shop window”
The Staffordshire Sentinel says that goalkeeper Sam Hornby is set to complete a loan move and Neil Aspin is quoted as saying the keeper needs to put himself in the “shop window.”
Hornby was signed by then manager Michael Brown at the start of the season on a two-year deal but was thrown (in Michael Brown’s words) “in at the deep end” after Lainton was injured.
So, I think it is better for Sam to play some games. It gives him a chance to put himself in the shop window because at the end of the day he has to be looking at his own career. It is no good for him if he is not playing any games…
However, he was replaced by emergency loan signing Kelly Roos after six first-team appearances after conceding six goals within the space of 135 minutes and has not featured since.
Hornby is set to be loaned to a National League club and manager Neil Aspin has perhaps hinted that his future may be in the balance as he told the press that the move gives him a chance “to put himself in the shop window.”
Aspin told the media: “It is not great when you are second choice keeper and you are not playing games, but to actually have three goalkeepers…. I felt that we can’t afford to have three goalkeepers and only one playing.
