OVF 2017 review: our player of the year
In our series of features covering 2017 we look at the defender we’ve named as our player of the year.
Our vote for player of the year goes to defender Nathan Smith.
Yes, the club did endure a relegation campaign but Smith was one of the few constants in the side and considering he only made his league debut in August 2016, his rise to automatic first-team pick has been remarkable.
Smith picked up five awards at last season’s annual awards and although he had a slow start to this season he has gradually improved in what is only his second season in the Football League.
Arguably at the age of 21 Smith could also be a contender for our “young player” award but such is his maturity and reliability we have included him in the senior category.
As one of very few reliable figures in the first-team both last season and this one, we consider him an automatic choice to be our player of 2017.
