Watch video: Aspin confirms that Jon McCarthy has joined coaching staff

The Vale manager Neil Aspin has confirmed that former player Jon McCarthy has joined his staff in a fitness coach role.

McCarthy is rightly regarded as a Port Vale legend after a two year spell with the club in the 1990’s. However. the former winger also has extensive coaching experience including a spell as Chester manager.

Aspin told the media that it was “not a case of jobs for the boys but because he’s qualified to do the job I want him to do.

“It’s good to bring in someone with a lot of experience football-wise but also with a degree in sports science… Jon will be in charge of the fitness of the players.”
