New manager Neil Aspin says that Vale’s large squad has caused fitness problems and he therefore cannot make wholesale changes easily.
After the defeat to Grimsby on Saturday he told the media: “I think it is a problem when you have so many players because you have a lot of players who are obviously disappointed that they are not playing, and so it is frustrating for them.
“The other side of the coin is, if they are not playing regularly, then their match fitness isn’t to a level that you need.
“That’s why I don’t think you can start making wholesale changes and bringing in different personnel every week because the fitness is a key.
“Whether it is down to general fitness or match fitness, there has to be a reason why we keep tiring in the second half.”
