Port Vale sign Cristian Montano
Port Vale sign Cristian Montano: the Valiants have confirmed the signing of former Bristol Rovers winger Cristian Montano on a free transfer.
Born in Cali, Colombia, Montaño moved to London as a child and holds nationality of both Colombia and the United Kingdom. Described as an “out and out winger” the 25 year-old Colombian-born player has signed a two-year deal with the Valiants.
He began his career at West Ham Utd in 2010 but never made a senior appearance. He had a loan spell with Notts County where he made his first Football League appearance and also scored his first goals. During his spell manager Martin Allen told the media: “”he’s a fantastic player and what a lovely lad. He’s humble, hard-working and dedicated.” He also had further loan spells with Dagenham & Redbridge and Oxford United.
He moved to Oldham Athletic in 2012 and joined Bristol Rovers in 2015. Montano has now made almost 150 career appearances scoring 17 goals. Last season he played 31 times for Bristol Rovers scoring one goal and he also played a part in their 2015-16 promotion campaign. Overall, the forward is closing on 150 senior appearances and has scored eight times.
He was released by Bristol Rovers in the summer with manager Darrell Clarke commenting: “Montaño was a very tough decision, it was borderline really.”
