Match report: Chesterfield 1-0 Port Vale
Chesterfield 1-0 Port Vale: Port Vale slumped to a potentially devastating away defeat to Chesterfield after an awful display which saw them re-enter the relegation zone.
Port Vale manager Michael Brown made two changes to his Vale side with Kiko coming in for the injured Kjell Knops and Anthony De Freitas replacing the suspended Danny Pugh.
The home side had two early chances for Kristian Dennis while Foley had a chance for the Valiants. However, the first-half was generally low on quality and chances.
Vale had an early chance in the second period when Foley forced a great save from Stuckmann. However, the home side took the lead just two minutes later when Joe Rowley scored. Vale quickly brought on Billy Reeves and Dan Turner for Bikey and De Freitas but it was the home side who continued to have the better chances.
Chesterfield could have doubled their lead through the influential Gardner but his effort was well saved by Mehmet. Vale brought on Scott Tanser for Kiko who had a decidedly off-game but the Vale could not force the equaliser and fall once again into the relegation zone.
In truth this was a pretty dreadful away performance by Port Vale who offered very little and are clearly in deep relegation danger.
