Smurthwaite concedes defeat in bid to sign Alex Jones on permanent deal
Port Vale owner Norman Smurthwaite claims that a failure to agree terms with Alex Jones’ agent caused a permanent deal for the forward to break down.
Jones had been a great success while on loan from Birmingham City and Vale had been tipped to secure a permanent move.
However, Jones apparently tweeted his goodbyes to the club this week and now appears to be set for a move to rivals Bradford City.
Smurthwaite tweeted to say that Vale had agreed terms for a permanent move with Birmingham but could not agree terms with the player’s agent. He also wished the player good luck for the future.
The tweet reads:
