Clipping Heroes #19: The 1990’s
Our retrospective series moves into the 1990’s with some pictures of some well-known and some lesser-known Vale faces…
What is this? Our clipping heroes feature showcases images from the past on a particular theme.
Note: the author has deliberately avoided using some of the more familiar images (such as the trips to Wembley) which are featured elsewhere on OVF (try using our search to find them) and tried to feature some less well-known images instead.
Gareth Ainsworth displays his pace and power in a game against neighbours Stoke City.
Defender Allen Tankard in action in 1998.
Defender Dave Barnett who played 36 times for the club.
Striker Peter Beadle was a rare John Rudge failure in the transfer market. Signed for £300,000 he scored just six goals and was sold by Rudge’s successor Brian Horton for a £50,000 loss.
This image shows a triple signing from 1998. Joining the club are Paul Beesley (joining the club for a second spell), winger Andy Clarke (who joined on a month’s loan) and French defender Stephane Pounewatchy who made just two appearances for the Vale.
Famous faces Robbie Earle, Simon Mills and Ray Walker all in action during a game against West Brom.
