Cautious Foley says there’s a lot of hard work ahead
Midfielder Sam Foley says he is going to “play it by ear” as he marked his return to playing action with a goal for Vale reserves.
The midfielder told the Sentinel: “It is a great feeling just to be out on the pitch and involved in a game. It has been 13 weeks of a lot of resting and a lot of hard work as well recently. So, it is nice to be out there and help the lads.
It has been tough not being able to contribute even in and around the training field. It is good to be back playing but there is still a lot of hard work to be done to get myself match fit…
“The initial injury was over a year ago now. I was getting through and I thought it would get better with a bit of rest here and there. But the scan showed there was something a bit different in there and it came to a point where I needed something done.
“I kept putting it off, trying to get through as many games as I could. It came to a head in the end and I just had to knock it on the head and get the operation out of the way. It has been tough not being able to contribute even in and around the training field. It is good to be back playing but there is still a lot of hard work to be done to get myself match fit.”
“We will just have to play it by ear and hopefully in a week’s time we might know more.”
