Ribeiro aims for continuity as youthful squad develops
After a summer that saw a mass influx of new signings, manager Bruno Ribeiro says there will be less summer signings in future seasons.
Ribeiro brought in 18 new signings over the summer and now has a squad of 35 but the Vale boss says that several of the squad members are ‘ones for the future.’
As I have said before, we have a big squad but I am looking for the future too…
The likes of Kiko, Riginio Cicilia and Anthony De Freitas has earned praise in recent weeks and all three are in their early twenties.
The manager pointed at the young age of the side to face Hartlepool in the cup telling the Sentinel that: “You saw we started with just two players who are older than 23 – Paulo and Ryan .
“That is good for the future of the club and that makes me happy because I am not just working for the present but also for the future of the club. I think in the future Port Vale will have a strong squad and good things will come.
“We had seven who would normally play in the starting eleven out injured or suspended. But the young players came in and played like that for the first half an hour. It is good for them because these players are 20, 21 and 22, and that is good for the future.”
Ribeiro has suggested that the youthful potential means Vale will not have to make a raft of summer signings commenting that: “It is good for the supporters to see we have a good squad. Also, in the future it is easier for Port Vale to just take three or four players, not 18 again. As I have said before, we have a big squad but I am looking for the future too.
“You see where Scunthorpe are this year, because they took two or three players this year. And maybe Port Vale next year – you never know – could be on the top all the time.”
