Smith unhappy with set piece defending
Port Vale first-team coach Andy Smith said his team’s defending at set pieces has to improve.
The Valiants slipped to a 4-0 defeat to Sheffield United on Saturday.
The set plays – you have to mark your man and if you don’t do so you get punished…
Afterwards, Smith told the media: “I am disappointed. The manner in which we conceded the goals today was just not us at all, but we have to get over it and bounce back for Charlton.
“The set plays – you have to mark your man and if you don’t do so you get punished. That is this game. You have to take your chances. We had one just before they scored and didn’t take it, coming to the biggest club in this league, we know the talent they have got, and you have to take your chances.
“That was maybe ours but I am really disappointed with the set plays. It is simple, the ball comes in and you have to be strong enough to get it. We got done, one hundred percent, we got done.”
