Loan watch: Pickering plays in thrilling win

Vale’s on-loan goalkeeper Harry Pickering played in a thrilling win for Kidsgrove Athletic.

Pickering was in goal as the Grove defeated Soham Town 5-3 in the FA Trophy qualifying round one. Former Valiants Chris Birchall, Ross Davidson and Anthony Malbon also played in the game.

In League One, JJ Hooper played the full ninety minutes as Northampton Town beat Bury 3-2.

In the National League, it was a bad day for Ryan Lloyd who played the full game as Chester lost 5-2 at home to Lincoln City. Also, in the National League, Nathan Ferguson was withdrawn at half-time as Southport beat Torquay 2-1 and Sam Johnson was again an unused sub as Gateshead drew 2-2 with Wrexham.

In the National League North, Ryan Boot kept another clean sheet as Worcester City beat Altrincham 3-0.

Elsewhere, Billy Reeves played 54 minutes as Witton Abion drew 1-1 with Colwyn Bay in the FA Trophy first qualifying round
