Port Vale 0-2 Birmingham reaction: Smith earns praise from fans
Nathan Smith may be closing in on his competitive debut for the club after his latest performance earned praise from the supporters.
Smith had an outstanding loan spell with Torquay last season and after an impressive pre-season he could be in line to force his way into a starting place in defence.
Many fans saw Smith, Anthony Grant and Sam Foley as the side’s stand-out performers. Here are a selection of comments from the OVF matchday thread:

However, there was also concern about the lack of goals in the side with fans commenting:
“I also think our problem in front of goal isn’t down to the strikers… it’s difficult for them to score when there’s a lack of creativity.”

“You cannot actually blame the strikers as there needs more penetration in the last third and from wide positions and balls being put into the box a lot quicker or it will be a long hard season.”
Ben
“The lack of chances is worrying, but then again we have played three Championship sides in a row.”
PV1973
“After Thomas went off and Kelly came on we had no threat up front.”

“It’s now five games and no goals from any of the new continental players. And no goals at Vale Park.”

“I don’t think we’ll score enough goals this season.”
Hagrid
“On that showing we will struggle to score goals at all.”
Valerule4ever
“The lack of goals, or even chances is a concern, but generally we looked good in spells tonight.”
