Page: three-year plan allows me to build on this year’s work
Manager Rob Page says his “three-year plan” for the development of the Port Vale squad is still in effect and will lead to “better things” in the future.
Page is set to announce Vale’s retained list but he says he can add to the squad while keeping the “nucleus of the side together (indeed, players such Jak Alnwick, Ben Purkiss, Sam Foley, JJ Hooper and Anthony Grant are all under contract already).
If we can do business and add a couple of quality players into the squad as well, and build on what we have done this season, then surely that has to be a sign for better things next year…
Page commented: “Against all the odds we are going to finish in the top half of the table. That is a fantastic achievement for the lads considering the bookies were writing us off at the start of the season.
“So we have proved them and a lot of people wrong this season, and what we want to do is build on it.
“I wasn’t lying when I came out with this three-year plan. We thought about it and there is a reason why I said it. It is about keeping the nucleus of this team and squad together.

AJ Leitch-Smith, Carl Dickinson, Ryan McGivern, Richard Duffy, Michael O’Connor, Chris Birchall, Theo Robinson, Achille Campion, Byron Moore, Sam Johnson, Enoch Andoh, Colin Daniel, Chris Neal, Ryan Lloyd and Adam Yates.
