Midfielder Michael O’Connor told the Sentinel he was delighted to be back in first-team action after a frustrating start to the season.
O’Connor missed the start of the season after an injury picked up in pre-season but he was arguably Vale’s star performer in the 3-1 win over Southend.
I have kept my fitness up and come back in and felt good…
He told the newspaper: “It’s good to get back. I’ve missed three games through injury and then two because the lads have done well. But I have kept my fitness up and come back in and felt good.
“It wasn’t a great start for me to get injured the week before the start of the season with my knee. It took me a while to recover from that but I worked hard to keep my fitness up.
“It has been a frustrating season for me. Last year I thought I might kick on this season having done well last year but it hasn’t happened.”
