Coventry Fan: Our form has dropped dramatically
We chat to a Coventry City supporter who is concerned about his side’s recent form ahead of the game with Vale.
REP was chatting with James Littlewood from the Sky Blues Talk forum.
About the fan…
“I’m 23 and have been a Coventry fan since the year 2000. We were relegated from the Premier League in my first year supporting the club and we have got worse every season since!”
How did your expect your club to do this season?
I felt we had one of the best managers in the league in Tony Mowbray…
I think like most fans at the start of season I was quite pessimistic about our chances this season. There was no real investment in the team and we relying on young players in attacking positions. However, I felt we had one of the best managers in the league in Tony Mowbray.
The first half of the season has been nothing short of superb for all involved but recently our form has dropped dramatically and this has coincided with a decline on home attendances.
Where do you think you will finish?
I still fancy Mowbray to get us in the play-offs despite some absolutely ridiculous pleas from some fans to sack him. We still have a good squad at this level and I feel we have more than enough to finish in the top six.
Who’s the dangerman?
He’s very quick and agile and can use both feet – and he’s miles too good for League One
The obvious one is Adam Armstrong with 17 goals already this season. He’s very quick and agile and can use both feet – and he’s miles too good for League One! Jacob Murphy is capable of special things if he’s up for it but he can also be our biggest liability on a bad day. James Maddison is a very special talent and although we’ve just sold him he’s back on loan until the end of the season.
What are your thoughts on the manager?
He has worked wonders with an average League One budget to revitalise the club from recent dark times. I have never enjoyed watching Coventry City play like I have in the first half of this season. I have total respect for him but I can honestly see him going at the end of the season if we don’t go up especially now his prize asset has been sold for peanuts.
What are your thoughts on the board?
They waited until the last minute of deadline day to sell James Maddison…
Until recently, I was actually beginning to think they have changed their ways and are ready to do the right things to see the club back where they belong.
However they waited until the last minute of deadline day to sell James Maddison which didn’t give Mowbray the opportunity to reinvest in the squad. I think a lot of Coventry fans share my views on this and are bitterly disappointed.
Where you at the Coventry-Vale game earlier this season?
Yes I was. It was a very hard fought game which Vale made very difficult for us. We were on a good run and were destroying teams at the Ricoh but we couldn’t seem to break Vale down. I remember they had the chance to the lead in the first half several times! A piece of magic from James Maddison won a tough game on the day.
A score prediction?
It will be another tough game but hopefully we will come out of this 3 game losing streak and win 2-1 (Armstrong, Hunt and AJ Leitch-Smith).
