O’Connor return increases competition for places
Rob Page has confirmed that midfielder Michael O’Connor is fit and in contention for Vale’s game against Blackpool.
The Valiants have won their last three games and the midfielder’s return provides the Vale manager with a welcome selection headache.
If O’Connor was to return, the obvious move would be to switch Sam Foley to the left – but left-winger Sam Kelly impressed on Saturday scoring his first goal for the club.
Jak Alnwick is also expected to be fit for the game although Vale do boast an able deputy in Chris Neal should the young goalkeeper not make it.
This sort of conundrum is a welcome problem for Page who has Neal, Ben Purkiss, Remie Streete and Uche Ikpeazu all pushing for a place in the starting eleven.
