Carlisle Views: Watch out for Jabo Ibrehre…
Carlisle fan Ken Hullock thinks Jabo Ibrehre and Uche Ikpeazu could be key players in the JPT match.
About Opposing Views: Before each first-team game, OVF regular REP will bring you the views of the opposition with one or more supporters answering our questions. This time it’s the turn of Carlisle Utd…
Tell us a bit about yourself?
I have supported Carlisle United for well over fifty years now so I’ve seen us scale the heights and plummet the depths. I’ve lived in and around London since 1978 so I see them more often away from home than at home. I have been a member of the London Branch of the Carlisle United Supporters’ Club for 20 years.
How do you expect your team to do in the cups?
The JPT is a fave tournament having been to six finals and winning two…
Well so far we are progressing nicely in the Capital One Cup with a visit to Anfield beckoning after seeing off QPR in the last round. I don’t see us progressing any further though! I’d settle for third Round of the FA Cup with a decent tie against a Premier League team. The JPT is a fave tournament having been to six finals and winning two. I’d rather concentrate on the League this season and getting back into League One should be our priority.
What is your favourite cup game/memory involving your team?
I have to go back a long way for my best cup memory. Beating Chelsea at home in the League Cup in 1969 before ultimately losing out to West Brom in the semis.
What is your favourite Cup goal of all time?
Seeing Peter Murphy score to win the JPT at Wembley against Brentford in 2011 will live long in the memory…
Seeing Peter Murphy score to win the JPT at Wembley against Brentford in 2011 will live long in the memory, especially as he had been the villain in the final the previous year by stupidly giving away a penalty against Southampton.
Who do you think will win the Cups?
It’s a bit of a lottery but if they concentrate on it Sheffield United should go close in the JPT whilst Man City and Man Utd could share the spoils in the two big domestic cup competitions.
Who should we watch out for in your squad?
Anyone who scores nine goals in 481 minutes has to be watched out for…
Assuming he plays then Jabo Ibehre. Anyone who scores nine goals in 481 minutes has to be watched out for.
Who do you most fear as the dangerman from the Vale squad?
No more Tom Pope to bother us but I notice you have Uche Ikpeazu on loan from Watford, my local team, and that he scored a couple for you the other week. The big centre forward is bound to cause us some problems if selected.
Do you have any memories of previous clashes between your team and the Vale?
I haven’t seen that many clashes between us and Port Vale but my abiding memory is seeing Joe Garner smash one in for us from 30 yards or so at Vale Park back in 2008.
A score prediction?
1-1 with us going on to edge it on penalties. Ibehre and Ikpeazu the scorers.
