West Brom 0-0 Port Vale (5-3 pens)
A Valiant Port Vale performance saw them lose on penalties to Premier League West Brom.
Rob Page unsurprisingly named an unchanged Vale line-up after the comprehensive win over Doncaster on Saturday.
The Valiants matched their illustrious opponents in a first-half that produced few chances but which was evenly poised.
As the second-haf began, Anthony Grant cleared off the line while Alnwick pulled off a good save. But Vale then came more and more into the game and Andoh led the appeals after what appeared to be a handball in the box.
Both sides brought on subs – for Albion it was £12m Rondon while Vale brought on free transfer signing AJ Leitch-Smith.
Rickie Lambert then hit the bar but Vale managed to take the ball into extra-time.
With the Valiants tiring, Albion had the better chances with Rondon spurning a couple of chances, Albion hitting the bar for a second time while with minutes remaining Jak Anwick made a brilliant save to deny the home side.
The penalty shootout was as follows (West Brom first):
Lambert: scored 1-0
