Port Vale owner Norman Smurthwaite says he may personally inject money to sign defender Remie Streete but only if he “sees the support of the fans.”
Streete, who enjoyed a successful but truncated spell at Vale Park last season, was released by Newcastle United at the end of the season.
If I see the support of the fans then this will be the first of my direct investments…
His agent says that the player could be interested in a move to the Valiants. He told the Sentinel: “I have not spoken to anyone at Port Vale yet, but I know he enjoyed his time there; that was where he played football properly last season. We will see what clubs are out there.”
Vale have a £1.7m budget this season but Smurthwaite has said he may add to it if key players become available.
Meanwhile, Smurthwaite posted on this site’s forum commenting: “If I see the support of the fans then this will be the first of my direct investments.”
