Mel Lintern player profile
Born in the North East of England, Mel Lintern was an inside forward who progressed through the Port Vale FC junior ranks.
At the age of just seventeen, Lintern made a solitary first-team appearance for the Valiants, coming on as a substitute in the 2-0 away defeat to Brentford in May 1967. It was the final game of Port Vale’s 1967-68 season.
After impressing then manager Stanley Matthews, Lintern subsequently signed a professional contract with the club. However, he left just two months later having failed to make another senior appearance for the Vale.
After leaving Vale Park, Lintern subsequently moved on to a brief spell at Carlisle United but the forward failed to make a senior appearance for the Cumbrians. He then moved into local non-league football with spells at Stafford Rangers and Hanley Town. He then brought an end to his playing career with just the solitary professional appearance to his name.
