Former Valiants: Davies and Clarke released
Former Port Vale loanee Crag Davies is one of thirteen players to be released by Bolton Wanderers while Blackpool let Peter Clarke go.
Davies enjoyed a successful loan spell at Vale Park in 2010 when he scored seven times in 24 games.
The striker is still only 29 and given his Welsh connections (he is a full Wales International) and the potential departure of Tom Pope, some fans have already linked the forward with a possible move to Vale Park. However, with Vale sticking rigidly to their playing budget, Davies’ Championship wages may prove a problem.
Another former loanee, centre-half Peter Clarke has been given a free transfer by crisis club Blackpool. Clarke enjoyed a successful loan spell at Vale Park from Everton and his release is something of a surprise after he was named as one of last season’s best performers. Like Davies, Vale are in the market for an experienced centre-half and North-West based Clarke may be a contender for a Vale move.
Meanwhile, former Vale manager Micky Adams is reportedly on a four man shortlist for the vacant Crawley Town managerial position.
