Yeovil 1-2 Port Vale
Striker Tom Pope and veteran Michael Brown scored as Vale secured their place in League One next season.
Manager Rob Page made two changes to his starting line-up with Chris Robertson replacing the suspended Richard Duffy and Pope coming in for Achille Campion upfront.
Vale nearly took the lead early on but Pope’s header was ruled out for a foul. However, the striker made amends in the twelfth minute as he put Vale ahead after a nice passing move. The Valiants were looking dangerous with Pope causing the defence problems and Michael O’Connor having a couple of chances from set pieces.
The Vale were forced into a change on the hour mark as the injured Dodds was replaced by Daniel. And with fifteen minutes left, a missed header by Freddie Veseli allowed Ugwu to equalise with ten minutes remaining.
That goal could have caused gloom but minutes later, Vale bounced back as veteran Michael Brown scored from a cross from O’Connor’s free-kick to revive Vale’s hopes of beating the drop. The goal came in the 82nd minute.
Yeovil had a late chance as Neal pulled off a fine save and 500 travelling Vale fans breathed a sigh of relief as their team clung on for a priceless three points.
