Tommy Widdrington player profile
Tomy Widdrington was a tough-tackling central midfielder who initially joined Port Vale on loan in 1999 before finalising a free-transfer move from Grimsby Town in 2000. He had began his career at Southampton (being sent-off at a FA Cup game against the Valiants) before spells with Wigan Athletic (loan) and Grimsby.
He was voted Port Vale FC player of the year in 2000 before moving on to Hartlepool United.
After a spell at Macclesfield Town, he returned to Port Vale in 2005 during an injury crisis and gallantly agreed to play for nothing on a non-contract basis.
His second spell ended when he moved on to non-league Salisbury City. He later moved onto management with a number of non-league sides.
