Ronnie Allen player profile :
Ronnie Allen was a prolific striker who progressed through the Port Vale junior ranks to make his first team debut in April 1945 aged just 16. He scored his first goal in August 1945 and was top-scorer in 1947-48 with thirteen goals.
Allen’s form soon attracted the attention of bigger clubs. He was sold to West Bromwich Albion in 1950 for a then club record fee of £20,000.
A success at West Brom in the top flight, he scored over two hundred goals for the club and went on to represent England making five appearances and scoring two goals.
Ironically, it was Allen’s penalty for West Brom that knocked Port Vale out of their 1954 FA Cup semi-final during the side’s Iron Curtain season of 1953-54.
