Ronnie Allen

Time at club: 1944-1950

Appearances: 155

Goals: 40

The striker progressed through the junior ranks to make his Vale debut in April 1945 aged just 16. He scored his first goal in August 1945 and was top-scorer in 1947-48 with thirteen goals.

He was sold to West Bromwich Albion in 1950 for a club record £20,000 and he went on to represent England.

Ironically, it was Allen’s penalty for West Brom that knocked Vale out of their 1954 FA Cup semi-final.
