Experienced defender Paul Beesley was initially signed on loan from Manchester City in 1998. The move was made permanent later that year. However, he was released when Brian Horton took over as manager from John Rudge. Having left the Vale, Beesley subsequently joined Blackpool before dropping into non-league.
