Mark Boyd player profile:
Mark Boyd began his career in the Newcastle United youth ranks and upon his release he was recommended to the club by manager Bobby Robson.
He impressed during trials at the end of the 2001-2002 season and agreed a new deal. Manager Brian Horton commented: “I am delighted to have signed Mark. He is a good footballer and we managed to beat several other clubs to his signature.”
He was initially a regular during the 2002-2003 season before an ankle injury brought his campaign to a premature end. He then struggled to force his way back into the side the following season and was released by the Valiants in the summer of 2004.
After leaving Vale Park he had further spells at Carlisle United, Barrow, Accrington Stanley and Macclesfield Town. He then moved into coaching and management in the non-league circuit.
