Marc Richards player profile:

Prolific forward Marc Richards was signed by Port Vale on a free transfer from Barnsley in 2006.

Richards struggled with injuries during his first season as the Port Vale side was relegated.

He refused a £100,000 bid from Cheltenham for him (a result of a relegation release clause) to stay with the club and was top-scorer for four consecutive seasons (2008-2009, 2009-2010, 2010-2011 and 2011-12).

He was also made club captain on numerous occasions and was the first player to score twenty goals in two consecutive seasons for more than ten years. His most productive spell was in partnership with namesake Justin Richards during the 2010-11 season when the pair scored 34 times (Marc 20 and Justin 14)

Richards turned down another transfer approach (this time from Carlisle) in 2010 but by 2012 with the club in administration he opted to leave and joined Chesterfield on a free transfer.
