Keith Houchen was an experienced striker signed by Port Vale FC for £100,000 from Hibernian in the summer of 1991.
Houchen began his career at Hartlepool United in 1978 and had spells at Leyton Orient, York City and Scunthorpe United before joining Coventry City in 1986. The striker then scored a famous goal in the 1987 FA Cup final. After a three year spell with Coventry he moved to Hibs for £325,000 in 1989.
He finished his first season at Vale Park with just five goals as the Valiants were relegated. He did marginally better in his second season with six goals before he was released in the summer of the 1993.
He later moved on to Hartlepool for another spell as he ended his playing career with 687 appearances and 184 goals. He later had a spell as manager at Hartlepool.
