Comments:A cultured midfielder, John Green was initially signed by Port Vale manager Stanley Matthews from Blackpool in 1967. Green had begun his career with Tranmere Rovers before a seven year spell at Blackpool where he had played alongside Matthews.
Green enjoyed a good start but then lost his place in the starting eleven He spent the summer playing for Vancouver Royals in Canada and bounced back by being an ever present and voted Player of the Year during the 1969-1970 promotion season under manager Gordon Lee.
He lost his place to Brian Horton in the 1970-71 season and was released in 1971. He went on to play for Northwich Victoria.
