Gordon Logan player profile:
Scottish right-back Gordon Logan joined Port Vale FC football club as a sixteen year-old. He progressed through the Port Vale’s junior ranks, captaining the reserve side before he signed a professional contract with the club in 1967.
He made his Port Vale first-team debut later that year and he was a regular under manager Sir Stanley Matthews but it was revealed he was controversially paid illegal bonuses which brought disciplinary issues for Matthews.
Logan was used more sparingly by Matthews’ successor Gordon Lee, making just fourteen first team appearances during the 1969-1970 promotion campaign. He did at least score a goal – in a 3-2 win over Oldham Athletic in September 1969.
After 35 appearances and a single goal, he was released by Port Vale on a free transfer in 1970. He later went on to play for non-league side Kettering Town as well as a spell in Scottish football.
