Darrell Clarke player profile:
Darrell Clarke was a central midfielder who was signed by Port Vale manager Martin Foyle on loan from Hartlepool United in 2005.
During his spell in Burslem, he made a single substitute appearance. It came in the final minute of a 3-2 win over Walsall, so his entire Port Vale playing career lasted just sixty seconds.
Clarke had significantly longer spells at Mansfield Town and Salisbury City in addition to his time at Hartlepool. When he retired as a player he had totalled 482 appearances with 63 goals. He also won promotion with Hartlepool at the end of the 2002-2003 season.
While at Salisbury, Clarke was appointed player-manager and had considerable success winning two promotions. His achievements brought him to the attention of Bristol Rovers where he also won two promotion. After leaving Rovers, he joined Walsall before a return to Vale Park, this time as a manager. Following the departure of John Askey, Vale paid a compensation fee to appoint Clarke as the club’s new manager in February 2021.
