Page slams ’embarrassing’ Vale
Rob Page has labelled the Port Vale performance against Crawley as “nowhere near acceptable” after the Valiants lost 3-2 at home.
Page told the media: “That was embarrassing. I have never ever stood here and said that about this group of lads because they are as honest as the day is long.
This had better be a one off. We will be in working ever so hard now to put right these wrongs because that is not acceptable…
“But that performance is nowhere near acceptable to what we think we can achieve in that changing room.
“Up until this game they have been superb for me, but that performance is embarrassing.”
“I thought we started okay in the first ten minutes. We got the goal and Doddsy was bright. He then got us out of jail just before half time to take us in with the lead.
“So, we explained to them as calmly as we could at half time that the first-half performance wasn’t acceptable and there was only one outcome if we kept doing that.
“But then the goals we gifted them are embarrassing; they haven’t had to work too hard.
“In the second half Crawley were the better team. They were trying to play out from the back as well but it is our pitch and we should have steamed into them from the first minute.
“This had better be a one off. We will be in working ever so hard now to put right these wrongs because that is not acceptable.”
