Vale Park opening day songsheet: here is the songsheet that was distributed to Port Vale fans for the first-ever game at Vale Park – the match against Newport County on 24th August 1950.
The songs to be sung were Land of Hope and Glory, John Peel, Abide with Me, Land of my Fathers, My Bonnie, Down in the Glen, She’ll be coming round the mountain, She’s a lassie from Lancashire and John Brown’s body.
The match itself finished 1-0 to the Valiants with Walter Aveyard scoring the first goal on the Vale Park pitch.
