Page given six weeks to prove himself
Chairman Norman Smurthwaite says that a decision on interim manager Rob Page will not be taken until the end of October.
Talking to the media, Smurthwaite said: “He will be the interim manager. I will not make a decision until at least the end of October. I will not rush this decision. Tomorrow is the opening game of the season for us as a team.
This is a special club. I can’t afford to get this wrong…
“There are a lot of people out of work but this is a special club. I can’t afford to get this wrong. This wasn’t part of the plan. I’m not going for a headline, I’m going for what’s right for the club.
“In the short-term Rob has the ear and hopefully the passion of the players. Rob worked for Micky and he was the gaffer. Rob’s now the gaffer and he will stamp his authority… ultimately he knows he will be measured by results until the end of October.”
Page added: “I’d like to thank the chairman for giving me this opportunity. “
