Crewe 2-1 Port Vale
Port Vale’s losing streak continued after a defeat to neighbours Crewe at the Alexandra stadium.
Micky Adams made four changes after his side’s poor run with Adam Yates, Richard Duffy, Chris Lines and Jordan Slew named in the starting eleven.
However, it was the home side who started the brighter and they took the lead after just six minutes through defender George Ray. Crewe doubled their lead on eighteen minutes when Vadaine Oliver found the net.
Vale’s defence was struggling and Crewe could have made it three with efforts hitting the woodwork and being cleared off the line.
However, Vale hit back when Slew was fouled in the box. Slew took the penalty and produced a good save for Garrett but it was not enough for Slew to convert the rebound to score his second goal in Vale colours.
Crewe hit back with Neal producing a good save to prevent the home side increasing their lead before the interval.
Vale came into the game more in the second period but they were still grateful for a good save from Neal to keep them in the game.
Vale pushed but Crewe arguably had the best chance of the half when Grant broke free only for Neal to save again. The Valiants huffed and puffed in the closing stages, with the ball headed off the line in injury time, but it was all to no avail as their losing streak stretched to five games.
