Rumour: Striker deal on, Ranger deal off?
In our latest review of Vale Park rumours, we hear that Vale are set to agree one loan deal but miss out on another.
Editorial Note
This feature contains rumour and speculation. All of these rumours should be treated as unconfirmed gossip until any move is officially announced by the club itself. We make no apologies for publishing some rumour and gossip (after all, even the state broadcaster, the BBC, publishes a daily Football Gossip column) but we’d just like to reiterate that this feature should not be treated too seriously.
Before we start, let’s just add… yes, we know this is yet *another* OVF story linking Vale with Martin Paterson but as our note above says, we’ve just passing on the rumours, we do not create them.
Patterson in?
According to a football rumours site, Vale will sign Martin Paterson on a season-long loan from Huddersfield Town on Friday.
OVF first tipped the striker as a potential target back in May. Since then, both Gavin Tomlin and Jordan Hugill have left leaving Tom Pope and Ben Williamson as the side’s only recognised strikers.
Paterson is reportedly unsettled at parent club Huddersfield Town; he left to join Bristol City on loan to get first-team football and he is unlikely to be in the first-team picture at Town this season.
The 27 year-old also has strong links with the Potteries having been born in Tunstall and after an unsuccessful trial at Vale, beginning his career with neighbours Stoke City.
Paterson would potentially give Tom Pope a proven strike partner. Paterson has scored in the Premier League and at International level and netted 19 goals for Burnley in 2008.
Ranger ‘snubs’ Vale
Another rumour suggests that potential Vale target Nile Ranger is set to turn down the Valiants and join one of our League One rivals.
Ranger has been linked with a possible move to Vale in recent weeks.
Yes, we know that if Vale really were interested in all these players that we’d have a first-team squad of around 50 by now, but aren’t the summer months supposed to be about fanciful transfer rumours? We think so. But just don’t take these stories too seriously, please!
