Released Vale duo net Mansfield trials
Former Vale players Anthony Griffith and Rob Taylor could be the latest former Valiants to sign for Mansfield after both featured as trialists.
Griffith and Taylor played as Mansfield beat Lincoln City 3-1 and Town boss Paul Cox told the local press that: “Both have been promoted out of this league before and both are good players who have a desire to want to play for us. But I have to be realistic in terms of finances. I need to sit down with the board and chairman and see if we can afford one or both.”
Griffith and Taylor were both released by the Valiants at the end of the season. Tough tackling midfielder Griffith had three spells with the club and was player of the year in 2010. Injury-plagued Taylor made 182 appearances, scoring 21 times during his six year stay.
Ironically, Vale have signed a former Mansfield player after Colin Daniel became the club’s first summer signing, but generally it has been Mansfield who have picked up former Valiants.
