Rumour: Ins and outs aplenty at Vale Park?
The rumour mill appears to be reaching fever pitch at Vale Park so we want to round-up what’s been said in a special feature.
Editorial Note
This feature contains rumour and speculation. All of these rumours should be treated as unconfirmed gossip until any move is officially announced by the club itself. We make no apologies for publishing some rumour and gossip (after all, even the state broadcaster, the BBC, publishes a daily Football Gossip column) but we’d just like to reiterate that this feature should not be treated too seriously.
Major signing on Thursday?
Owner Norman Smurthwaite has made heavy hints that there could be three signings of the “highest calibre” with one potentially unveiled on Thursday. OVF understands that it could well be a proven Championship striker (not Crag Westcarr as mentioned elsewhere in this article) who could well excite the Vale fans.
Westcarr in – Tomlin out?
Vale look like they are continuing to re-shape their squad and with Southend United now expressing an interest in Gavin Tomlin, it seems likely that the 31 year-old, who had a hit and miss first season with Vale, is on his way. Vale apparently want to replace Tomlin with former Walsall forward Craig Westcarr and it could represent good business if they do. Westcarr, 27 , is four years younger than Tomlin and hit seventeen goals in League One last season.
Moore to replace Myrie-Williams?
The departure of Crewe winger Byron Moore from Gresty Road has not been unnoticed. The Stoke-born winger is hotly tipped to replace Jennison Myrie-Williams (who has joined Scunthorpe) on the Vale flanks. 25 year-old Moore arguably represents more potential than the 27 year-old Myrie-Williams.
Hugill linked with move away
One player who could be leaving Vale Park is striker Jordan Hugill who has been linked to other clubs. Here at OVF Towers, we certainly hope not as Hugill had an excellent first season at the club and can surely only get better.
No clue about defensive addition
There has been no clue to who Vale aim to add to their defensive ranks (and that’s a good thing – well done to the club for keeping things confidential) despite Micky Adams saying that defence would be a “priority.” Southport youngster Aristote Nsiala has been linked, but Vale are surely also looking for a more experienced defender. With the club targeting three signings of the “highest calibre” it’s reasonable to expect that Vale will look to unveil a marquee defensive signing at some point this summer.
