Gardner leaves Wednesday
Former Vale defender Anthony Gardner is one of eight players to be released by Championship side Sheffield Wednesday. Gardner progressed through the Vale junior ranks before making his senior debut and was sold to Spurs for £1m in 2000.
Rigg released
Former Vale winger Sean Rigg is one of four players released by League Two side Oxford United. Rigg played 85 times for Oxford scoring nine times. Rigg had a three year spell at Vale from 2009 to 2012.
Burge prefers Cheltenham switch?
Midfielder Ryan Burge, who has left Newport County, says he would prefer to move to Cheltenham Town. Burge has been linked with a move to Luton Town but he told the Gloucestershire Echo: “I’d definitely like to play for Cheltenham because I grew up watching them and for any player to play for their hometown club is special.”
O’Connor released by Derby
Former Vale loanee James O’Connor is one of five players to be released by Derby County. O’Connor spent the latter part of the season on loan to Bristol City. He spent a similar loan spell with the Valiants in 2004.
Lloyd-Weston honoured
A consistent season for Hereford has seen former Port Vale youngster Daniel Lloyd-Weston awarded the supporters’ player of the year award. Goalkeeper Lloyd-Weston also received a call-up to the England “C” side.
