Johnson to play against Bristol City
Port Vale have confirmed that first-choice keeper Chris Neal has been ruled out of Tuesday’s game against Bristol City.
He will get his opportunity now with Chris being out with his ankle. I hope he shows the confidence and belief that we have got in him, because if he does that then we have a good goalkeeper…
Neal was stretchered off with an ankle injury during the 3-2 win over Tranmere and Vale are yet to assess how long the injury will rule the popular keeper out for.
However, the Valiants have a reliable and up-and-coming deputy in Johnson, who has risen through the junior ranks and made seven appearances earlier in the season when Neal suffered a wrist injury.
Manager Micky Adams commented: “The first time he came in for us he didn’t let anyone down and he looked confident. The sign of decent goalkeepers is that when they concede goals it doesn’t affect them.
“I just felt it was the right time to rest Sam when Chris Neal came back from his injury.
“But he will get his opportunity now with Chris being out with his ankle. I hope he shows the confidence and belief that we have got in him, because if he does that then we have a good goalkeeper.”
